98+ Pontiac Front End
Ok, I am very very confused. As I was flipping through my hot rod magazine, I noticed there was a difference in the front end of a 98 Trans Am and an 02 Formula. The Formula seems to have two little side-swept lights where the Trans Am has only one sideswept light that I could discern, as well as two big front foglights. Did they switch front ends after 2000, or is this just the difference between a Formula and a TA?
The Firebird line got a restyled front end for model year 1998 (and that style continued unchanged through model year 2002). The regular Firebird and Formula models had their turn signals/DRLs and driving lights in two separate, relatively small pods toward the outside edges of the front end. Visually, the Formula and Firebird are unchanged at the front. The Trans Am, in contrast, has its driving lights in large round openings on either side of the licence plate, while the turn signals/DRLs are toward the outside edge of the front, above a (largely non-functional) smaller opening which is supposed to direct cool air to the brakes. Which look you prefer is up to you.
