98+ M6 center console in 96 A4?

My console is broke and i have been wanting to upgrade to a 98+ center console for a while now.

Will a M6 console work in my A4? Seems like i read somewhere before that the shifter won't move all the way into the low gears but can anyone confirm this? I seems alot easier to find a M6 console compared to an A4, and i like the look of the manual console better than the autos. Let me know if you have done this conversion or know if it is possible please.

Have you checked Ebay they usually always have A4 consoles there and they're usually cheaper than the 6 speed ones.

You can do it and you are correct about not being able to shift into low 1 with the manual plate. Here is a thread i found about it.Look at the 5th post on the first page.

Yeah, i have been checking ebay and ls1tech for part outs, but most of them are either none ebony, broken, out of M6's, or just part of the console and not the whole deal. Plus, I think the manual console looks alot cleaner.

Thanks. So is there any way to moddify either the shifter or the console so that all gears will be selectable?

You could just go with a dark gray one, i haven't seen a 93-96 Camaro yet that has all black interior they are always a combo of black and graphite which is just dark gray. I had my dark gray 97+ console with my old fugly 93-96 dash and the colors worked well together. Also to make the last gear selectable you're going to have to hack up the back of the console insert for it to clear and then you're going to have come up with a way to modify the shift boot to fit then. Also you'd lose your gear selecter which would suck. I've driven vehicles with broken gear selectors and i hate it. You might try piecing one together. You can usually find the bases cheap then you just need the insert and they're not to expensive either.

Went to the dealership today just to see what the price would be and was told that the plate was discontinued about a year ago.

If you really wanted you could go to Dikota Digital and get on of their digital gear indicators to put in there.
