'97+ wiring harness is NOT required to uprade to '97+ taillights...
I did the swap last Thursday evening.
You don't have to use a '97+ taillight wiring harness to do the install. You also don't have to run additional wires from the front of the car to use them like this guide suggests.
All you have to do to use you existing harness is cut the constant wire running to the amber part of the lens. I have no ABS inop lights, nothing, everything works perfectly fine, just like the '97+ cars...
I was told that I had to use a '97+ harness, but that isn't the case. Just thought that anyone thinking of doing this would like to know.

Yep, I have checked everything...all the lights work just fine. They blink when supposed to, the red get's brighter with the brakes...all the functions of the '97+ are just like they are supposed to be...
I know this is OOOOLLLDDD, but I would like to know more on how you did the conversion without the new harness. I tried what you said, but the stop and turn signal are the same wire on the 94s. Granted, I was able to prevent the amber from lighting up with the taillights on, when you apply the brakes, the amber lights up as well.
Well - you have to do more than what is mentioned in that first post. What I didn't realize is that my ambers were too coming on with the stop lights - my buddy (that was looking at the back of the car while I flipped all the switches and mashed the pedal) didn't know that they weren't supposed to - so I thought everything was fine - until I discovered they weren't.
You can TRY (and I don't know that it will work) cutting the light blue wire under the dash as shown here and splicing it into the amber bulbs hot wire AFTER the plug. Be sure that you cut both wires though where you splice into them. Or, to say it better, you want it to be so that the start of the wire is from the back of the bulb and the other end goes directly to the blue wires end. You would then have to run a wire from the left to right between the two in the right hand side's amber bulb.
Hope that made sense.
I don't know if that will work - you'll just have to try if you don't want to step up to a new harness (that's what I did - just for the sake of easiness).

Since I had everything apart anyways, I went ahead and used the new harness and ran a wire. I was sure that it wasn't as simple as originally described, but wanted to make sure. Just for future reference when people do searches, while it might work modifying the old harness, it is MUCH easier to use the new style and run 1 wire.
