Thank you ! exactly what i was looking for, im bring home a 1996 SS convertible, and i want to swap all the parts to make it look like a 97, tail lights and dash, console... leaving seats.

maybe i'll think twice about doing this. i dont want to fudge with the origonal milage of the car. it has 48k miles on it. maybe i'll just leave it alone. unless theres a way around this.

or is there a way to roll the digital dash to match my exact miles?

what did you do about the milage issue?

anyone know about this issue?

Taken from the write-up:

"I had a local place - Autocraft Electronics (Houston, Tx) - reconcile the odometer to the old cluster so that my mileage wouldn't be different."

missed that part, i real the entire thing too. im going to swing by a camaro/firebird junkyard and see if i can get an entire dash out of a 1997 camaro. hopefully he wont charge me a bunch. ill have to look around town to find somewhere to match the milage for me after i take the dash apart.

do you think it would be an "upgrade" to put a 1997 dash into a 1996? i'm just use to my 97 dash, and makes life easier to make the 2 cars the same.

I definitely think it's an upgrade. Some people might debate that. I think the 97+ dash is a better design and looks better. It's not that difficult to do, just time consuming. Read over how the wiring is switched around in the link I posted above. I have a post somewhere with a diagram I made that might make it simplier to figure out what goes where.

the question i have is does the guage harness from the '96 plug to the '97 cluster? i know my '00 V6 cluster was WAY different then my '96 Z's cluster hook up. other then that, sweet writeup. You could use a dash from a 98+ too couldn't ya but just get the cluster from a '97 since i'd assume the '97 cluster hooks up like the '96 but in '98+ they changed it?
