3rd Gen appeal?

I am 16 and have a 1986 z28 with a 305/carb in candy apple red. My question is what can I do to give my car high school appeal. I know quite a bit but I still dont know what to do to give the visual appeal that I want. I dont want to do any rice burner junk (large rear wing, ground lights, etc) but I just want respect. I am starting my doing something under the hood and swapping the 305 out for a 350 so I can start building it up with a decent platform. Then on the exterior Im thinking about a cowl or s.s hood but I dont know if its worth spending $500 on something that wont have any function unless. Any general ideas?

Re: 3rd Gen appeal?

Honestly I would just put a 91 Z28 hood on it (the one with the louvers) and leave the stock 3 piece spoiler on it. Then get you a set of nice 17" wheels to set it off, maybe some Smoothie II's or ZR-1's. Also if you're gonna build an engine you might as well build up an LT1 or LS1 for it.

Re: 3rd Gen appeal?

How hard would it be to put an ls1 in there? That seems a little complicated/expensive but do you know of any threads about people puttings an ls1 into a 3rd gen? My 1986 hood has the louvers but I dont really like them. What choice do I have for panels and stuff like that. I've looked around and there doesnt seem to be any aftermrker body parts but there are stock replacements. I am missing a couple of body pieces so Im just looking for options. Anyone have any ideas what you'd do?

Here are a couple...

Add to favorites EDIT: These guys also have everything you need for the conversion. Here's the link.

Another to add to your favorites.

Hope this helps any, I plan on doing the swap to an '82 Firebird someday.

Re: 3rd Gen appeal?

there is no need to do an ls1 conversion when the same performance can be had from the older motors. only plus to doing it is the gas mileage.

ever seen the aftermarket for the old sbc? Endless. Cheap.

personally i wouldnt do it.
