200mph Speedo???
anyone know a group that makes a 200mph speedometer for a 99 LS1 f-body?? Needless to say my car should do over the stock speedo and I'd like to know how fast it will run. I really would like silver to match my pro-comp ultralite gauges.
Thanks,
Adam

Since they have the option for the '97 LT1s ... and you can swap a '97 TA gauge in to the '93-'96 TAs. Doesn't that mean that technically you can buy a '97 cluster off E-bay for instance then have the conversion done and installed in your '93-'96 LT1?? Only thing I see being off is that mileage and that of course would depend on however many miles are stored in the cluster that you purchase for the conversion.

the 97 should work with a little modding.............but I've only heard twice from someone who has said they had put the 97 in a early LT1.............I'd hate to spend the money on a replacement cluster and then on the conversion to the 200mph one and then have it not work

Yeah, about 400 bucks worth of a mistake I believe the only problems most people had with the conversion were certain lights that would stay on such as the seatbelt, TCS and for a couple of people, the airbag light. Other than that everything else worked properly.
The solution that someone else suggested was to take electrical tape and tape the backside of the cluster. Thats the exact same way it comes from the factory in certain areas that they didn't want light to come through. I took apart the cluster from a '94 3.4 V6 and it was the same way with various strips of tape here and there.

yeah, and I don't need to make another mistake....last one cost me $5Gs LOL!!!!!
so this has been shown to work multiple times? I'd go through the work and expense if I knew that all of it would work, not real concearned with TCS or airbags or what not as I don't have TC and the bags are unplugged. LOL!

That thread in the LT1 section has some good info in it... from what I see there, at least 4 people have directly bolted in the '97 cluster and all of them just had the problem with lights staying on that shouldn't.
You can get '97 clusters off E-bay pretty cheap > 100 bucks. Thats most likely the route that I'll be going with the swap in my 93 TA.

just a question, but how do u recalibrate for the extra mph on the speedo....it looks as if the numbers are just pushed closer together to add room....would this screw the mph reading up showing for example 70 mph when your really are going 50???

The cluster's are calibrated by Granatelli in their shop to reflect the higher MPH printed for the speedo. You'd need to send in your cluster out of a '97+ or buy a spare and mail in that one so you wouldn't have any downtime.
