10" subs and boxes

I'm thinking about getting a 10" stealthbox through that deal through subthump. But looking around, I was actually considering getting a T-top box with maybe 3 10"s? I never really saw this box before. And it seems like everyone says "I have Two 12's."

So basically, any reccommendations between the two boxes?

The stealth box would give me more room granted, but maybe I'd like to fill up my well as long as I still had room for my tops.

And how is the sound between 3 10's and two 12's?

I also need a 10...or maybe even 3 to put in the box. How much should I expect to pay. Doesn't have to be the best, but of good quality. Any reccommendations?

Thanks in advance,

Mark - Don't worry, I'll try not to blare my music like the rice boys do in their hondas...

hey whats up man, i actually love the sound of my stealthbox in my Z. i have a JL 10 sub and a JL amp and it sounds sweet. i dont know if its the JL amp pushing the sub or what, but it honestly is gives the cleanest sound that i have ever heard. i like the stealthbox because i have the extra space in the back too, even though i never put anything back there! i am gonna either have a amp rack made or try to build one myself to put on the shelf in the back. if you are going to go the JL way for subs and an amp be prepared to pay a pretty penny, but you will have one the highest quality setups around. my setup sounds a million times better than my buddies who is running 2 - 12" pioneer subs in his car. i was thinking of getting a nice big box to go where the ttops go but i am glad that i chose the setup i did because in my opinion it rocks! lata

Shorty95Camaro, when I had my SS I ran 2 JL Audio W0's in a custom ported box fireing downward. They hit about as hard as 2 12's and sounded much tighter. I still have the set up and have no use for it anymore. If you are interested PM me.

My friend had a Stealth Box with a JL 10 and it did sound good but when we had the T-Top's off at cruising speed it did not seem powerfull enough to overcome the wind noise.

aircop40, sweet ride!

Cool

This thread would probably be better off in the Car Audio section...

But I do have an opinion here. I used to be an installer. The 3 10's are going to be louder and tighter...relatively speaking. HOWEVER, 2 12's will hit deeper. A lot of it depends on brand. If you have 3 avergage 10's and put them again something like 2 JL 12w6's...the 12s are going to pound. Against 3 10w6's...I dunno. I have a set of 10's in my jeep and a set of 12's in my camaro. I like the 12's better. I've been converted! As far as boxes...I've seen stealth boxes for both the passengerside and the drivers side...and I think that'd be the way to go. I had a 2 10 stealth box for my Dakota, and I also noticed how clean it sounded. The key is the composite material they are made out of. The composite makes those boxes VERY rigid. I didn't notice ANY flex out of mine...at all. That made for some of the tightest bass response I had ever experienced. Definitly quality stuff. I'd recommend any application that would use those stealth boxes...doesn't really matter which brand...JL, MTX, Fosgate...whatever. They all use about the same composite material. Just my $.02.

I think I'll probably go with the stealth then. The 3 10's was sort of expensive anyways. I'm sure I'll love it.

Thanks for the advise. And sorry for not putting this in the Car Audio Section, I was looking around here when I posted and just totally forgot about the other section.

I'll still be thinking about my decision for a little bit.

No prob...you don't gotta apologize to me for not putting it in the audio section...I just know that's where you'll get more responses relevent to what you wanted to know. If I were you, I'd probably still ask over there. Someone there may have better advise for you. As much as I like my 2-12 setup in the camaro...I will have to say...back when I was going demos in the "boom boom room", the box I'd always use for loudness was the 3-10 MTX box. It was CRAZY loud. Of course...that may have been because of the room, and if 12's would've been better in a car...I honestly don't know. I guess it's a personal preference type of question. What I used to ask people is this..."what type of music to you PRIMARILY listen to?" If the answer was MOSTLY(not all the time...but most of the time) rap and R&B, I'd tell them to get 12's...hands down. If if was MOSTLY rock or other types of music along those lines...then 10's were the best route to go. So decide what music you primarily listen to...and let that be your guide.

BTW, I MOSTLY listen to Trance(techno)...and those 2-12s are perfect.

Yeah, I listen to a little bit of everything. A lot of punk and rock music, but I do listen to some rap. That's why I originally thought that a stealthbox would be fine by me.

The main reason I always stayed away from getting a custom trunk enclosure is because I never wanted to give up the room for my tops. But since I want to do this sub stuff soon, I was searching subthump and looked into the t-top box a little more. I was more thinking about the rarity of 3 - 10's, because I know very few people who have it. It might be giving up more room than I would want and could cost me too much.

Anyone else? What does a single 10 cost a piece...like ballpark? I think I might try to go with JL Audio or Rockford...maybe Alpine. I need to go shop a little at Best Buy...without buying yet.

The Millhouse box is a option too. Have the space and the stealth install. I have one on the way and should be here Monday. Putting 2 JL audio 10W0's(8 ohms) final 4 ohm in it and using a MTX amp bridged in mono. SO far this set up had sounded great for me and now it will be nice to have some space. I would have went with the Stealth box, but didn't want to get rid of the cd changer and wanted to use the spare tire well for my amp.
