Where does the balancer key go?

My car is a Y-body, so no one I can find makes a keyed balancer for it. So I'd like to get my existing hub keyed.

The question is how do I know where to have the keyway cut? According to the shop manual, when you install it you bring #1 to TDC and install the arrow on the hub at 12'oclock.

That doesn't sound particularly precise. Is it because the balancer is neutral balance anyway, so it doesn't have to be?

Thanks,
Dave

The balancer is neutral, on mine I just located it like the book says and marked it , removed it and had the hub indexed. Or you can buy just the hub , I beleive the hubs for y-f and impalas are the same.

What differences are there? I am curious because the catalogs lump them all together.

Length, apparently. I think the F-body has a lot more room in front of the engine that the Y-body. Probably why the vette only gets a 6-rib belt for blowers, etc.
