Hey I read the article in whatever mag it was and was left with a couple questions. In the picture of his no loss system for the c4 vette on the last page was that harmonic pulse eliminating box just a hollow box that doubled as a sort of exhaust pressure equalizing crossover as well? It looks like both banks flow into it and its just an open chamber where both banks flow into then there are 2 outlets that go back into the mufflers. Also he never said where to put the crossover or if it mattered where. Like if you have say a gutted cat on each side or a large open chambered muffler to simulate the open atmospere and the end of the collector should the x pipe be right after or what? does it matter? Also it said the collector diameter should be about 1.75 times the size of the primary diameter, even though that might flow way more air than the motor its supporting, Is it ok to revert back to the minimum ID pipe needed after the open chamber? Would it matter if it stayed a little big? I thought that was a really helpful article and something that might prove very usefull on my project car when the time comes...

 

all your questions have been answered by Vizard himself in several of his other books, he obviously had to leave a lot out to fit the article into a magazine-friendly size. though he doesnt cover near as much as he does in his exhaust book, he still answers all your questions in the exhaust section of his book "How to build max performance small block chevys on a budget"

IMO, anything by Vizard is good reading, and his books are all pretty cheap on amazon.com

while on the subject, anybody know where i can get a hold of his SBC shortblock book? had no luck finding a copy anywhere since it has been out of print for a while

 

Yeah thats a good point, I think Ill try to pick up some of his books.

 

Any other books explaining exhaust theory out there? Ive foun dsome stuff online about people who have come to believe that vizard isnt always correct in every case with the exhaust tuning. Just like to get some other opinions and if nothing else a good read...

 

I learned quite a bit from, "Scientific Design of Exhaust and Intake Systems".

If you are good with physics and engineering terms/math, this book will be
a better read.
