Victor E manifold conversion questions

What is the best way to seal the distributor hole in this intake short of welding. I would like to leave my options open if I decide to use a distributor instead of an opti?

Is it better to convert the LT4 heads to the intake bolt pattern of the Victor E intake or convert the intake bolt pattern to the bolt pattern of the LT4 heads? The reason I ask is, it appears it would be difficult to get a bolt in the center two bolts if the the intake is converted to the LT4 bolt pattern, since the port come down very close the the base of the intake.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

BTW, I am using a set of AFR227 heads for this project.

Re: Victor E manifold conversion questions

You just need a 1/8 inch sheet of steel with holes in it, bolt it into the distributor tie down holes with some RTV.

For the bolt conversion, the easiest way is by far to convert the heads to fit the intake pattern.

Converting the intake takes a little more work and welding, I know bret did one like this he sent me pictures of awhile back. I just converted my heads. The outside bolt holes can stay but you need an angle washer since they are angle drilled and the intake is 90 degree. The inner holes need to be welded up and then new ones tapped and drilled.

Mike,

I like using a turned aluminum plug with a O-ring on it, helps when you have a machine shop for that.

I'm also a fan of converting the intake to the heads because you pretty much stick yourself by making those heads run a SBC intake from there on out if you do it the other way.

Re: Victor E manifold conversion questions

Bret,

Do you have to weld up the holes on the intake or can you just drill out the LT4 pattern while retaining the original pattern. I have not got the intake in hand to see where the holes lay out compared to the original. Also, once the LT4 intake bolt pattern is used on the intake, is there issues with the center bolt holes? It looks as though the intake runners would be right above the holes.

Also, would you sell me a aluminum plug and o-ring?

Re: Victor E manifold conversion questions

I should have a pic of one around here someplace... $35 for a O-Ringed Al Plug.

As for the bolt pattern...

The middle ones I leave as a SBC pattern and either not run bolts in the center like a Vortec head or drill the head for those since they don't intersect the LT pattern. You can't really use the center holes on the single planes when you go to the LT pattern... if you are good you can put them in and spot face them it's just hard to get a bolt in there.

To plug the hole, go to www.mrgasket.com and look under Mallory Ignition, look under distributors. They make a plug, and also make a oil pump drive so you can eliminate the cheap lt oil pump drive.
