Valve Lash Cap Question On My 396 Solid Roller

I am converting my 396 LT1 to a solid roller set-up with T&D shaft mount rockers. I hear I should use valve lash caps on top of the valve stems. Is this true? I have the Ferrera Pro-series valves. Should I use the caps to protect the valves or will it be fine without? Thanks

Lash caps = more surface area for the rocker to plant on. It's purely up to the operator to run them or not. I do because of more area and it protects the top of the valves as well. Retainers have to be machined for them to work I believe.

I've had no problems in the 7 to 8k miles I put on my motor w/ them.

No reason I can see why you shouldn't put some in (unless you like buying new valves or at least having the tips machined smooth). I had about 7k miles before there was very noticable wear on my ferrera valve tips. Definitely learned my lesson - after having the tips machined smooth, I threw some lash caps in and have had zero problems since. When the caps get beat up and worn, it's a hell of a lot easier to replace them!

They are OK but ya will have to check your geometery and get longer pushrod's.

I wouldn't worry about running a lash cap unless you just want to do it. You'll need the locks to work with them, so there's a few more things to take into consideration. I'd go ahead and bolt the shafts in with the check fixture and see where everything lies. No sense in having a good setup machined if you don't need to and maybe some caps can help you avoid that. Don't know till you check.
