is using lash caps a good idea with high reving engine?

I got some lash caps for myself, mainly to correct valve train geometry issues since I don't want to get the rocker to get close to bottoming out. Now My problem is I'm planning on reving my engine to 7k rpm, I have the mods in the sig & running comp R' lifters, my lash will be set to ZERO I'm just wondering if its a good idea to run lash caps since they may come off at high RPM especially with steep ramp rates I'm going with on my huge cam (not 847 in sig, but a later custom one). I'm using the AFR hydra Rev kit & Comp 977 valve springs set to 140lb on the seat & 400 open.

Anyone that has any advice & where lash caps should & shouldn't be used please chime in, thanx!

Matt.

Contact CompCams or CraneCams and ask them.

I rev my engine to 7000 and don't have lash caps but then I also don't have a roller cam with high spring pressures.

If your lash caps come off then you've done some damage like bent a valve for it to happen.

I'd run them no matter what, I didnt on my soild roller motor and after abotu 2k miles the tips of the valves (ferrea 6000s 2.08/1.625) where concaved where the rocker tip hit. This is with comp 943 springs ~210 lbs seat pressure.

They're little caps that go on the tip of the valve so the rockers actually roll on them instead of the valve tip itself. When you run solid rollers or a cam that requires a lot of spring pressure, most cam manufactures will recommend them to keep the rockers from damaging the tips of the valves. Like previosly stated, the valve tip will eventually mushroom or indent at the tip.

I for one, imo, would not even consider not running lash caps and I also for one have not ever heard of one just coming off either but then again our race car motors only twist 8.5k.

I'm ashamed i didnt run lash caps, altho I dont see a problem re-using the valves with the stem indented, its not mushroomed FWIW.

Cool sounds awesome, I need a set of .050 tall lashcaps since the ones I have a re .080, I needs some .050's for the exhaust to level it out, since my exhaust valves are .030 shorter.
