Solid Roller Question

I have been led to believe that modern valvetrains that use these newfangled "polylocks" or some such lock nut for the rocker that you could run a solid roller camshaft without the frequent lash adjustment that I recall from my younger days.

Is that true or hype?

Solid rollers and strong pushrods you shouldnt need a lash adjustment untill about 50 k miles..Many OEMs run solid setups and without the wear of the old flat tappets there isnt any continuos wear..

More over...solid roller + poly locks + strong push rods + stud girdle = don't worry about it. I'd atleast check them about every oil change or so.

Solids

You should do frequent inspections of the vavle train to catch any problems before it turns into a major failure. As posted if you have locks and a girdle adjustment of the solid vavle train should be minimal. Ploy locks have been around for a long time so they are proven.

Make sure that you get the best quality spring you can afford. Especailly if your going to increase the engine operating RPM. Too little spring pressure can cause major engine failure. Your vavles could actually bounce on the seats becasue of a lack of spring pressure. The valve train is one area where I believe you should buy nothing but the best parts available.

Here's a good thread on Spring Pressure w Solds
