Rust on Rockers?

I recently purchased a "NIB" pro-mag roller rockers. They were advertised as being in the original plastic. When I got them i noticed that some of the rockers had what appears to be a surface rust in places, and the corrosion is even on a few of the roller tips. They are also a little nicked up which would lead me to believe that they are not new at all, but maybe reconditioned. So my question is, has anyone ever had some roller rockers come with rust on them? And if so, are they still useable or atleast restorable? I'll try to get a picture of the worst of the bunch.

Thanks,
Jeremy

Yes, I have a set of ProMagnum rockers with some surface rust. It taught me not to clean parts so well that will be in storage for a while after use. They'll be fine.

Re: Rust on Rockers?

yea it happens, when i worked in a machine shop, every once in awhile when we packaged parts on humid days even our health hazard perkote couldn't prevent parts from getting a hair a surface rust.

I wouldnt worry about it really, unless it's on the pushrod seat or the roller it isnt going to affect anything in the least, but if you are worried, some oil and some scotch brite or steel wool will solve your issues, but on a roller rocker, a speck of a metal shaving gets in that roller and you can hit the order key for another set.

What i'd do is go to the auto parts store and get some of that rust eating gel stuff, and oil em up real good afterwards, then install.

But like i said unless it's on the roller or a pushrod seat surface, it doesnt matter, unless it's like flaking off and going to clog your oil pump, but that's flat out rust, that isnt surface rust.

Re: Rust on Rockers?

Mine have been a little shabby looking for the past 40k miles. I sent them to Comp for a rebuild and they came back looking the same way. Ready for more punishment .
