Piston ring gap placement?

I noticed in disassembling my new never been run short block that a couple of the pistons have an 'opposite' ring gap placement when compared to the rest. Should I set them all the same? I can't find any information on how to determine where to place the gaps.

By opposite do you mean than the gap on the top ring is directly opposite the second ring or that the top and second ring are still 120 degrees apart (oil ring another 120 degrees further) but facing other direction?
It's not going to hurt anything if they were directly across from each other as they start to rotate the minute the engine starts running. you just really don't want them lined up directly

And if you mean that in one cylinder the gap is forward and in one it's aft., that doesn't matter.

My cummins manual says to set each ring about 120 degrees apart.

Compression rings opposite, major & minor thrust.

Oil rings 120 deg off, expander opposite their centerline...

Shoebox had a diagram up...

They spin once the piston is moving up and down, so really....

Like M1 said, they spin anyway. I have enough trouble getting the right side up, being sure the oil ring spacer doesn't overlap, etc. So, I just make sure they are staggerred. Not sayiong you should do it that way, just what I do.
