Pick-up Tube Depthness continued..

What is the recommended distance the pick-up should be from the bottem of the pan?? Im hearing a few different numbers so I want to know what the engine builders suggest.

I didnt do the clay trick but my method should be just as accurate..

I measured the distance from the bottem of the block to the pick-up tube which measured to be 7.125".
Then I measured the distance from the bottem of the oil pan(where the pickup would be) to the top of the oil pan and came up with 7.500"
That tells me w/o the gasket the pickup would be .375" off the bottem of the pan.

The gasket measures .250" so now Im off the bottem of the pan .625" but that is with an uncompressed gasket.

Looks like Im gonna have to find a way to lower the pickup tube but I want to hear some feedback first..My tube is welded on but Im sure I can tap it down a lil bit if needed.

Thanks

Cody

You should set it to 1/4" to 3/8" clearance.

Is that measurement made from the Screen or the Tube?

Thanks

The pickup screen/screen housing (whichever is lower).

I set the clearance to .250" off the bottem of the pan and Ill let you guys know if I am still experiencing a slight drop in oil psi above 4k. My pick-up was .650" off the bottem
It was only dropping from 60 psi to 55 psi, but I really didnt feel comfortable with it dropping. Hopefully, I solved the oil pressure problem and I went ahead and added a brand new felpro oil pan gasket since it was leaking just a lil
I did the canton pan by myself in only 8hrs of work.
