New Custom LT1 Oil Pan

I have noticed (while trying to find a suitable pan for my LT1) that there are not too many choices available. Enough said, if there is some (LOTS of) interest I'm getting a custom 6-7qt. aluminum pan made. It will be clearanced for strokers and will most likely have the drain plug in the rear. I'm trying to get the price down well below $300. Compared to a Stefs or Billet Specialties. Let me know if this is worth the time to make the jig and so on.

Thanks, Bok.

If you make it, run it on your motor for a while to give it a test go. It would suck if the pan wasn't designed exactly right and caused like a starvation at 7k rpm+ with high volume oil pumps or something and folks trashed their motor. It just seems like there would be a little more r&d than making a piece of aluminum to bolt to the motor. But I don't know. That being said, I'd be interested in one if it'll fit in an lt1 in a 3rd gen.

Peace,

if it had some testing behind it and some baffels in it so that it would be suitable for RR or AC Id' be interested, especially at that price, want to know it works though

I've looked at this too....

Thing is aluminum pans are not that easy to do and do correctly so they seal. The reason they cost what they do is because they take some very good craftsmanship to make. Someone like Jeff Johnson has the ability to CNC machine pan rails so the fit is perfect. That and years of aluminum welding experience on Al pans. Not saying that you don't but there is going to be a steep learning curve on that and making sure they don't leak.

Saying that.... as an engine builder if I bought a pan from you and it leaked that's the last pan I would ever buy and would advise against them to anyone else. So making sure they work the first time out is a good idea.

On to the price side of it....

@ $275 you are going to be doing direct retail so that means only the end user will be buying it from you. Not a real good way to sell 5-10 pans to a guy in a year. You have to price in a realistic price structure of a retail price, a engine builder and WD price.

Now I'm not sure why you want to do a Al pan for $300 when you can get a Canton for the same price or less. I would improve on the design of the Canton if anything, working on internal baffeling and internal windage control. Clearance issues were big trouble in the early pans on LT1's mostly because they were made for Gen III F-bodies and not Gen 4's.

By chance has anyone ever looked into the marine LT1 oilpans?
Mastercraft bought LT1's from GM. Mastercraft required 6Q pans with trap doors, scrapers.

Guys found a place that sells salvage marine parts:

Salvage Marine:

res042e7@verizon.net

Spoke with a guy Alex there, and he has a bunch of the marine LT1 pans. He was generous enough to offer me the pan for $100 and if it doesn't work he'll exchange it, until we get one that fits.

He asked if it was aluminum or steel, so there may be options there.

I'm not going to take him up on his offer at this point, but a good place to begin for somebody who is.

Thanks for the response, R&D would be helpful first. That's why I posted it here to get VALUED input. I'll keep you posted if and when I proceed.
