Need Major Help pls Motor Still Locked

Motor Locked, Need Serious ASAP help

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I made a post a while back about my motor being locked up on LS1 tech and on here, here is the link to the Ls1 tech thread.

http://www.ls1tech.com/forums/showthread.php?t=241711

please read there for my previous problem.

Now over a month later... we finally got to working on it and we had to pull all the pistons and rods. Now.. with all the pistons and rods out of the motor, it still locks up. The ONLY thing left in the motor would be the crank.

How in the hell would the crank be messed up if we never touched anything except for the rod bolts and cam swap?

No one we know seems to be able to comprehend or understand what the problem is.. and its not getting any closer to completion.

The crank is the only thing left in the motor.. it'll turn 3/4th one direction and 3/4th the other.. and then hard lock.. and it will not turn anymore.

I know there are plenty of mechanics here...... so any help is truly appreciated.

Take the rest of the engine apart. You'll eventually find the problem. You're going to have to disassemble it at least that far to correct it, right? What have you got to lose?

You might consider posting in LS1 Engine Tech.

Good luck.

I know you said you pulled the heads and pistons but have you pulled the cam out as well or at least removed the timing chain to eliminate anything in that area? Basically have you undone everything that was altered from stock or anything that was tampered with in any way including the front timing cover etc. If there is nothing left in the motor except a crank, not even the flywheel, and the mains were not touched in any way and the motor has not been run since this problem arose then I have no idea what it could be.

I think I might know...Not sure how severly locked up your talking
Take your front cover off, and take out the bottom cam retainer bolt out. if it spins, its the wrong bolt (too long) driving into the crankshaft counterweight. You should be able to sneak the bolt out the holes in the timing chain...

I think i know exactly what your problem is. You probably mixed up the bottom cam retainer plate bolt with a longer bolt (maybe from the cam gear) so it is sticking through the block too far and the counterweight on the front of the crank is hitting it. I did the same thing on my cam swap and i felt like I was gonna puke or something when i tried turning it over by hand and it clanked.

Edit: here is my thread http://www.ls1tech.com/forums/showthread.php?t=169439

That was my problem.. thanks all for the support.. I pulled rods and pistons before I pulled teh cam back out... guess I will know better next time.. now its time to throw in some new bearings and go to work with this bitch.
