Moving the altnator

I want to move the altnator to make room for my turbo. I was think of putting it where the a/c is. And I want to keep the power steering. Has anyone done this, with the power steering on 4th gen?

texanmutt: That kit you showed requires the removal of the AC compressor AND the power steering pump.

I'm not sure about Madman's setup, since the webpage wasn't very descriptive, but I'd assume it is the same way.

I too would like to move my alternator to where the A/C compressor resides. I never use my A/C (I'd rather have my T-tops out), so I figured I would yank it. But there is no way I'm giving up my power steering; 275 width front tires would suck trying to turn with no power steering!

Yes both require removal of p/s and a/c. I see two ways of doing it. Modifiying the stock assesories bracket so the alt would fit. Then swap the pulley on the p/s. Then find a belt to make it fit. I was going to do this last year but the alt would not fit in the a/c braket with out modification. I did not do this but should have, now I will be stuck with custom valve covers to clear alt.

Second way buy madmans bracket and making your own bracket for the p/s.

either way its getting done, if anyone has beat me to the punch let me know

Does this get rid of the heavy bracket that the ac/alternator now bolt on to?

check these out:

http://www.hotrodlane.cc/LT1LT4/LT1LT4ACC.html

at the bottom of the page is a pic labelled "chevelle style power steering"

they have their own brackets for mounting alt and p.s. alt mounts about were p.s. is now. p.s. mounts on the opposite side. very cool setup. downside is price. brackets, pulleys, tensioners was about 500 bucks. but you get what you pay for. i think i'm gonna buy the type III headers that are in about the middle of the page.
