LT1 v/s Gen1 Cam Specs?

Im sure this is in the correct section, if not please feel free to move, and my apologies.

Odd question...

What are the differences between a Gen1 cam versus a LT1 cam? I know the LT1 cam has a "protrusion" on the end for the opti, but are the lobes shaped the same? Are the main lobe's the same diameter?

Could an lt1 cam be ground in front (removes the protrsuion) and be compatable in a Gen1 block?

Thanks,

-Bone-

You can put a Gen 1 cam in an LT1 fairly easily and you can put an LT1 cam in a Gen 1 very easily

So the only difference is that the LT1 cam has that "****" on the end? Do you know anybody on the board running a Gen1 SBC camshaft in their LT1?

[edit] would I have to run different lifters/pushrods/ etc.?

Bone Daddy,
What exactly are you trying to do here?

If you happen across a cam in a catalog that is not listed as an "LT1" cam and want to use it, just call the cam company and they can grind the cam with the necessary step nose and dowel hole. I'm guessing about your intent though....

Let us know.

No "intent" really, just thinking of doing something and I don't have the two cams to compare.

Just wanted to know in general what the differences between the two were.. I'm assuming that the LT1 nose groove and the longer dowl pin (for the opti) are the only difference?

Yes, to my knowledge those are the only differences.

Good luck.

My buddy and I were talking about this today, something like a thrust bearing kit for the front right? I know Mindgame was talking about having the cam custom tailored, but what if you want to be able to swap cams with your SBC in your Nova or Chevelle? I have a few friends who have ALOT of SBC cams lying around that I could use.
