Just like the title says. I couldn't find anything with a search, so figured I'd ask. I know a couple of guys were close, but that's the last I heard.

Only Bobby is actively pursing this as far as i know. I talked with him about 3 weeks ago and he is real close, but i'll let him chime in on the details.

Cool. I'd like to find out when he does get running. I've been wanting to see a set of these running on an LT1 ever since I first heard of the Arao setup.

The day before we were fixing to assemble the motor some lowlife stole my intake manifold. Since this was obviously a one-off piece it was a pointless action but that just shows you level of mentality of the person that took it

Since the intake got stolen (ported stock 93), I decided to think about going the single plane route now instead of waiting till later since I have been seeing alot of positive results on naturally aspirated motors. My initial plan was to run the LT1 manifold and then switch to the single plane so I could have some back to back results. After reading some of HotRodHawk's posts, I went ahead and made the decision.

HotRodHawk came through for me with one of his custom air ducts and Darren Harden came through for me on a throttlebody so now I'm just waiting on my new intake manifold to be ported. The last time I was fortunate because my timing was perfect for my porter but this time wasn't and I had to get in line like everybody else. So its just been a waiting game. The motor is basically ready to be assembled as soon as the intake gets here. I'm still waiting on Force-EFI to come through with my rails although they supposedly shipped last Friday. Without a manifold its pretty pointless tho.

I did manage to take care of the entire drivetrain during the process though. Musser Engineering did a beefy rebuild of the tranny (93 M28 6-speed) and a buddy of mine got together with me and with the help of Billingsly Racing built a pretty nice custom 9" ourselves. All Spohn suspension pieces round it out.

I also managed to wire up an in-car wide band and the DFI cause I'm planning on turning it about 7500rpm. So I haven't just been sitting on my hands waiting around The plan is to have the car running at the Southern Shootout in Louisiana in November. Thats the only real race slated on the calendar for the year cause looks like things are gonna really slow down for me next year and the car will probably be slated to 95% street duty for a bit which is why I built it the way I did.

Some of us have been waiting since the Dominion heads were first released.

Bobby -

What would you say real world cost on doing this is?

Leave out the drivetrain costs, but include the costs of the support systems, to include intake/exhaust (to the collector), and engine management.

It's OK to ballpark it. Round it to the nearest thousand.

I'm gonna guess that it's one of those "if you have to ask, you can't afford it" type things

I would allocate about 20k.

LOL...thats prolly the most accurate. Ofcourse I got the heads second hand so I didn't incur as many cost as a new buyer would. You will need:

heads: 5500?
custom headers: figure at least 1K
intake manifold porting or new + porting depending on the route you go: figure at least 1K
custom pistons: 1200
block work: You can do this yourself or pay a shop a few bones
camshaft: 300 or so

Honestly, in my head and prolly in yours, it doesn't really seem much different from the norm but its funny how things start to add up and pile on. Like anything else, you start to think realistically about long term and what you should do now to take care of anything that might happen in the future. Thats where the drivetrain and other stuff fell into play and thats where $$$ starts to fly out the door fast. You start making mental notes of what the car will be and what it could be and next thing you know you are buying stuff you never intended on buying.

Keep in mind this list is just a starting point. This wasn't the cheapest endeavour but with the same old stuff and same old combos going on it was enticing to try one that nobody has managed get together. Thats the allure and thats the thing that keeps me wanting to finish. Plus the fact that I've got so much time and money invested at this point. Might as well finish it and see if it lives up to the hype.

Looking at your list, for the motor alone the price doesn't look too bad. If you already have a stout drivetrain this could end up being in a lot of peoples budgets.

About the custom pistons used, I'm assuming four valve reliefs??

Keep us posted on the progress, I've been wanting to see a setup like this run for a long time!!!!

On another note, for you "The Big Show", I noticed a lot of 93 stuff. Is the car by chance a 93 also?? If so, could you drop by the speed density board (link in sig) and keep us posted over there. Your car would be pretty interesting to a lot of guys!

Im gonna guess it wouldnt be too helpful anyway though, since he will be running a single plane intake and aftermarket DFI.

Also, Bobby, didnt you get it running for a short time and the motor blew up? Or am I thinking of something else. Also is this a natasp setup of FI?

I'm not thinking of it being helpful, more of a "hey check this out" sort of thing that 93 guys like me may find interesting.
