Post Help!! 355 in my 90 mustang coupe.

My friend has a 90 mustang coupe. He is putting a SBC in it and was wondering about the motor mounts. Has anyone seen this done or had experience with this. All help would be appreciated. This is NOT going to be a fuel injected car. Any other things we should look out for along the way. This car started out as a 4 cylinder. Thanks
Scott

It'd be easiest to change the K-Member. PA Automotive can make one for a direct Bolt-in.

I believe Lemons makes headers for this swap also, about $850 though....

Ok, now im curious. What advantage would you gain by putting a SBC in a Mustang?

Its not for me, my roomate is in the process of this. He has always liked the looks of the 87-93 coupe, plus they have a big weight advantage over an f-body.

Thats cool but im wondering is there some inhertant advantage in using a SBC I dont kow about? It seems there are just as many parts available for the SBF as the SBC so couldnt you just build a 347 stroker and be done with it? That seems alot easier than using a bunch of custom parts.

Good Luck!

He isnt in to ford, he just likes the looks of the coupe. Doesnt care much for Ford products. Plus it is something different that you dont see everyday. You see SBC and SBF all the time but not harldy ever a SBC in a ford. And it will be fun pissing off the die hard ford fans

Dude I used to know well, helped out, and even drove the car some had a fox body with a 355 and a glide.

Headers were custom units dumping behind the front tire.
Motor mounts were all home-made using flat stock and solid, GM mounts.

The rest was not a big task.

I think the car weighed 2,800lbs dripping wet.

4.30s, firestone 30x9s, fully tinned.

It was quick. Wheels up hard on the 'brake, 6.70s in the 1/8th if I remember correctly.

painted the engine blue. bluer anodized valve covers. GM folks loved it. Ford folks wanted to strangle him. Go figure. The car is sitting, rotting somewhere Gulfport, Ms now. Last I heard anyway.

Why....?

sm blk chev stuff is cheap, plentiful and almost every parts store in america has stuff for you. Plus, at the track, you can always borrow a spare with little fear of it not quite fitting. Most others have some fittement problems from motor to motor, year to year. GM kept this mickey-mouse crap to a minimum with the standard sm blks.

As for a 'glide.....everyone runs one and there are adapaters available and used everywhere for everything.

Doug,
that was a big help, I think this will be fun. So everything was pretty much easy except for the mounts? Who custom made the headers? Thanks for the reply.
Thanks

Thumbs up

Cool, thanks for the info! I guess there are advantages to running a SBC since you have 60million other SBC's to borrow parts from

I don't know what exactly he is tring to build but You get some motor plates http://www.jegs.com/cgi-bin/ncommerc...19&prmenbr=361 This will might help with header selection. Although they kinda involved putting them in but he is putting a chevy in a mustang.
By the way I love that body style as well. I would like to put a LS1 in one.
