I asked one of my physics Prof's this and they had a hard time answering:

If you take a volume of gas and compress it, it naturally wants to expand. If you keep compressing it, it REALLY wants to expand. What is the mathematical point at which it gives up and decides to compress itself?

Won't it eventually become a liquid under enough pressure? How much pressure do you think it will take to get liquid hydrogen AT ROOM TEMPERATURE?

and my personal favorites:

How does Gravity work? Describe gravity without using that term.

Gravity sucks! -B. Simpson
Oops! He said the "G" word.

What is time? Describe time without using that term.

indefinite, unlimited duration in which things are considered as happening in the past, present or future.--Webster

By saying compress it, I mean compress it. Screw liquid. I'd like a cube of hydrogen. Yes, that'd take a rediculous amount of pressure, considering the melting point I think is in the neighborhood of -260*C which is 20*C above Absolute Zero. That'd mean you'd need easily 2MBar of pressure...

But even at that point it'd still want to expand, melt, boil etc. Unless you had it at that low a temperature (which lets say we dont). What'd happen if you put 400MBar on it? Would you get a black hole yet?

I think you are in the right ballpark with 2MBar. So how would you achieve that at room temp? Yeah, a VERY strong press.

How can we get this to apply to Advanced Tech? Hydrogen powered vehicles come to mind...and are coming sooner or later.

Food for thought.
