Which Heads for Stroker
Which Heads for Stroker
Well, I have finally sold my AFR 190's....I did that to buy a larger runner head to use w/ my engine. Now, I am looking to buy either a 210 or 215 runner head, Lloyd Is gonna port them and Bret Is gonna do the cam. I was going to get Trick Flow R-series 215's, but If Lloyd is gonna port them does it really matter which heads I start with? Theroretically, I would think that if it's an aluminum head it shouldn't matter which I chose because they are all about the same size runner, and should be able to be ported to the same extent, and flow close to the same numbers. Am I crazy for thinking that? I was looking around and found AFR 210's, The Trick FLow 215's, Dart Pro 1 215's, Pro-Action 210's or 215's, Edelbrock Victor JR's, and was wondering if it would really matter which ones I buy since they are being ported. I know the Trick Flows and AFR's perform much better "out of the box", but what about when they have been ported? What do you guys think, and/or choose? I haven't asked Lloyd or Bret this question because I don't wanna waste there time if it is a silly question, and they are very busy people. So help me out.[FONT=Arial]

Ask Lloyd and/or Bret.
I know both of these guys. They want you to be a satisfied customer. I don't believe they will think your concerns are "silly".
A teacher once told me, "There's no such thing as a stupid question if you don't know the answer." I had asked a really dumb question, so he added, "...but that's close!"

Kyle,
You are starting off with around the right size of castings if you are going for a mild port job. A 215cc port is a good place to start on what you are running, I can say that because we've talked about your combo already. You can base the port size on the physical cross sectional area, the effective cross sectional area or the port volume/port centerline average cross sectional area method but how you come up with a goal for those dimensions is the hard part.
