Exhaust Temperature Troubleshooting
Exhaust Temperature Troubleshooting
Moderators: I am sorry if this doesn't belong here, after posting in LT1 tech and got limited answers, I though going here was the next logical choice.
I am having a problem with my car and wanted to see if it is everyone, or just me. I have a laser thermometer that I use from time to time to check the external temerature of my headers while the car is idling. I noticed that Cylinders 4, 6 and 8 are all running about 550 degrees F at idle. Cylinder 2 is closer to 250 degrees. Cylinders 1, 3, 5 & 7 are closer to 700 degrees F at idle.
I removed the A/C and Power Steering. In doing so, Cylinder 2 is 'more' exposed to the cooling effects from the radiator fans. So, I thought maybe that was causing the lower readings, however, I tried blocking the fans with a piece of wood between the fan and the exhaust primary and the temps only got up to about 350 degrees.
Can someone else shoot their primaries and tell me what numbers they are getting??
I feel like I have a mis-fire problem in that cylinder. I already swapped plugs, and injectors, checked all the wiring to it, and checked the compression on 4 cylinders. They all were similar.
Thanks!

You might have that cylinder too rich.... or too lean compared to the rest. You notice one side has pretty equal temps but on the side with the one cold hole, you have cooler cylinders on the other 3. Seems like something is going on to get that one cold, maybe no spark and what's leading out to the O2 sensors is making the other 3 compensate for that. It could just have bad combustion for some reason, not burn the fuel well or at all and that gives the even side O2 the idea that it's running rich. There fore it pulls fuel from the other 3 and then they cool off.....
That's a situation I can come up with... who knows if it's right.
