Exhaust crossover questions

I was curious if there is anything to gain from using a crossover of some sort, H or X, compared to strait duals. Ive seen some testing in magazines and most come out showing the H and X pipes give relatively the same power outputs but no one Ive seen has compared them to a dual setup with no crossover. Is there even a difference or is it mostly just a sound thing?

Re: Exhaust crossover questions

X pipes should not be an "X"

Imagine two C's, one mirrored and just barely overlapping, maybe a 1'' overlap, if that/

Re: Exhaust crossover questions

Yeah I have a dr gas 3" right now, so I know what it is.... I am just trying to determine if I change my exhaust what is actually worth doing... trying to compare sounds to power increases and weighing them out to see which is more important. I personally dont like a v8 that "humms" and I sort of have that right now, I heard strait duals or an h pipe will make a deeper grunt than an X pipe at the sacrafise of power, and how much I dont know may not even be worth worrying about on my stock motor. I have kind of a crappy exhaust for a stock lt1 right now and Im feeling all together dissappointed with it since it has horrid clearance and makes an abrupt bend at the cats then is press bent after the mufflers not to mention its dual 3" till after the X. Ide like dual 2.5" but deciding if I want to even bother with a crossover to save money since its gonna be mandrel and have removable cats... thanks for the link by the way.

Re: Exhaust crossover questions

yeah, correct X pipes tend to give it a droney hummy sound for some reason (a lot of times).

Its kind of funny in that the typical "raaaa, ra rump, ra raaa raaa" kinda sound means the car is not tuned well although most take it to sound great.

kind of wierd. most our race cars sound annoying and like crap. i hate the ressonance they make, their tone and constant droning sound. i like the way they move though!

Re: Exhaust crossover questions

Yeah it kind of sucks lol. I wish that wasnt the case, but no biggie its just a bolt on car anyways and considering how money is slowly getting tighter im gonna be hard pressed to maintain the car. I have an X right now but its stupid low to the ground and high centers over the bump to get in the garage. Just stupid, plus there are a few aspects about it I dont like although surprisingly I like the sound, not love but certainly like but Im willing to bet that strait duals with no crossover and those sweet thunder chambered mufflers will sound wicked deep. May as well save the money on a crossover and sell the one I have. Thanks for the info guys!
