eagle stroker and small base circle.

I built a LT1 383. The guy that did my machine work said I would need a small base circle cam. I had comp cam build on a custom small base circle cam. Its a nice cam. But I decided to put a regular small block in my Z28. Its already got a cage in it. And Im making it a pure race car. I also have a 1994 yellow formula. The engine started knocking. Im going to put my stroker engine in it. Im going to downsize on the heads and cam. I m wanting it to be alot more streetable. Can I just get a off the shelf cam? Or does it need to be on a small base circle also. Its the 4340 crank 3.75 stroke, and h-beam 5.7 rods. Im also going to need another set of heads. These heads arent what Im wanting to use everyday. But I need to know about this cam asap. So I can get this done. Im leaving my wife with out a ride seince we only have the tahoe running.

With MOST 383's you don't need a small base circle cam.

At least on a Eagle H Beam setup.

Depending on the rods you have you may or may not need a small base circle cam and/or you will also need to clearance your rods.

I have an Eagle rotating assembly: 4340 Crank and 6" Rods. I used a standard base circle cam (Crane) with no problems.

You don't need to change it, you can still use that one but a small base circle cam is NOT required.
