DIY Ceramic Coating - UPDATE
DIY Ceramic Coating - UPDATE
For those who remember, i tried Techline Coatings Ceramic Header coating on my hooker long tubes.
To start it was very easy to apply. I let it sit overnight and it was dry to the touch but still soft. While installing them, any little touch would scrape the coating right off, which was pretty annoying, luckily i didn't loose too much and was able to reapply. After allowing it to bake on by driving, it was very impressed. I popped the hood and held my hand out, didn't feel hardly any heat. I touched the intake manifold, MAF, etc, and they all felt COOL! Time will tell how well this stuff holds up to wear and rust.
If you're a cheap *** like me and want to save $$ on your headers, i'd use this.

Nothing local, i ordered from their website.
4 oz's was 20 bucks and would have done the job if i was careful, but i went for the 12oz bottle for 50.
I still have about half the bottle left, and it'll be more than enough to do the y pipe i need to make.

You are supposed to bake it prior to install. That would result in a smelly house though.
I did this about 4-5 years ago using the color line of thermal barriers and it worked great. Used a dark blue color which needed to be applied with an airbrush.
FYI, you used to be able to get it via Summit Racing and I think Jegs. Call them up and ask them if they carry TechLine thermal barrier coatings.

Hey i just did a search for techline and came up with these replys.
I'm very interested in this product and will be doing it unless people have had problems.
I wouldn't recommend installing the headers unless you bake the chermachrome at 500'F in an oven.
But the black satin can be air dryed.
Also they say that it is orderless because it is a water based product.
This stuff is supposed to be a great thermal barrier, capable of cooling the engine compartment of 100'F.
IS it true though that your intake and other components would run cooler as well.
Please reply if any one of you guys continued on this project.
thanks
