direct main-cap oiling
Anyone ever played with direct main-cap oiling in a SBC? I'm sure some of the pro's here have or do use this in high hp applications, I'm just wondering how common it is. I've seen that several aftermarket blocks come set up like this, but I'm curious as to the possibility of plugging/tapping some oil passages to convert a block over to this system.
Is it possible to machine a SBC/LT1 block for this flow path?
or is this only a possibility at the time of casting? (within sane finacial limits of course
).
Just never heard of anyone "converting" a block over so I'd thought I ask.

true priority main oiling, right? We were comparing a Dart Little M's oiling system to my LT1 block today at school. The regular SBC oiling system is about as good as it gets. There are little things that can be done to each.
Put roller bearings in the block and you basically end up with what you want

If you think about it,brand X "Cleveland" was modified like this to the brg's to make them "live" at high (above 8000)RPM's.Just never seen or needed to do it with a Chevy.Never had a problem with the existing system even when wet sump.
Roller cam brgs are doable but money wise that's about it.$$$$$ many, many to do the crank.

I think you mean priority main oiling like AdioSS said. It's a great idea. No real good way to plumb up a block the way you want, it's mostly internal oil passages that do that.
The problem with roller cam bearings is not the cost of the parts but the cost of the work to get them in there, and the fixtures to do it.
