"Approximately 53,393. Now if each one sent in $1.00 as their contribution to the EMC engine, I think a competitive engine could be built by some forum members. Is that what you meant by a community project?"

Yes that's exactly what I ment!!! Probably more like $5.00 ea!!

How many on this board have actually competed in the EMC - I know Bret has I would think that whoever had competed in the EMC would have the best shot at doing the Dyno development work, because they already know how to play the game, and what is really required.

As far as the ego thing of "I have to do it myself" that would have to toned down a bit. Big-Joe won with a 365 SBC seems to me that a 377 (4.155X3.5) is a better piece.

"It's hard to get to the front of the line with the best head porters" Whoever it is would have to be commited to the project. There are three of us on this forum that I know of.

Denny and OldSStroker:

If you guys got a CamaroZ28.com EMC team together I would do my best to help fund the project.

That said I'm still doing my best to help secure funding for another project I talked with you about Denny, but without any luck.

Denny,

There is always a cube limit in every competition, so you have to build it to fit that and whatever new rules they want to run that year.

For $50K I think you could do something in that contest.... at least you would have everything you need to do it.

Bret

Thanks for the vote of confidence
I have no dyno and I want someone that has competed in the EMC as part of the team that designs and builds the engine. So money has to be available for all the team mambers.

What you're saying is that if the CID limit is 434 or whatever you have to build a 434 in order to compete???

Hummm!!!

Is the RPM range always the same?

Honest I know about the EMC, but I just thought it was a fluke for a while until Al Moody told me that Kaase won it twice and walked away with 70K each time, then sold the motor for some undisclosed amount. I know just how smart that guy is.

If they leave the C/R alone at 10.5 and don't get to tricky with the other stuff next year may be a doozy. Where would you put the peak torque and peak BHP as far as RPM is concerned?

RPM range is always the same, 2500-6500rpm. Almost every year they change the cubes to whatever they think. Its been:

365 Small Blocks, Hyd Roller and Flat Tappet, No Compression Limit
468 Big Blocks, Flat Tappet Only, No Compression Limit
410 Small Blocks, Open Cams, No Compression Limit
509 Big Blocks, Opne Cams, No Compression Limit
434 Big or Small Block and Open Cams but 10.5:1 Limit Compression

No Clue about what it will be this year.

Peak TQ most times is around 5000rpm and HP 6200-6500rpm. Usually the most important part is the 2500-4000rpm area and making that work to make the most average there.

It's a tricky deal and reading the rules to your advantage is the key.

If you are interested the rules come out at PRI every year.

It's in the rules, but to summarize:

Average torque from 2500 to 6500 PLUS average horsepower from 2500-6500

The sum of the torque and hp averages equals the magic number. Highest number wins. The 2006 contest was won by 1 point (out of 1080 total!). Here's the final results:

Guys

I created a new thread to continue this discussion - I think it is an important topic for the Advanced Engine Thread users to share their wealth of empirical knowledge with the "Newbe's"

Those of you that posted on this thread and want to transfer that info to the other thread feel free to do so.
