I seem to be having issues with head gaskets and am going to replace with one of these , I have read differences in opinions on both but they both seem to be a high quality piece. I have a lt1 355 ,11.6.1 cr ,ported lt heads 52cc chamber and running 200 shot .The engine was properly machined when assymbeld i just chose to use a stock felpro gaskets,lesson learned,so I would appreciate some expert adviice on the matter and or any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated

 

what problem are you seeing

I am running the Fel Pro in a 12.2:1 396/ 48cc head and a 200 shot.....might not be the gaskets fault.

I have also ran the Cometics

 

Are you using head studs?

I like both of those gaskets - we use the Titan ICS on most of our blown BBC's and modular fords. The Cometics get used too in the same applications and seal very well.

 

I have read alot on Cometic gaskets that "seep" coolant. Mine did, they are in the garbage. A Fel Pro 1074 are on the car now, no problems.

You did not have the right surface finish.

 

Cometics were already on the shortblock(sealed up) when I bought it. The only variable was the heads, which I told Lloyd when he milled them I was going to run a Cometic.

Either way, they have been junked in favor of Fel Pro's.

Problem is unless a guy has a Profilometer he can't guarantee that they will work on all Cometic setups.... even if they are milled the same. I always use Copper Spray on them as well and don't have any problems, but I always know my Ra on my surface finish of the block and heads.

You shoulda sent the Cometics to me! I'll find a place to use them at some point!

A 50RA or finer is required for them to work. That's heads and block.
