Re: Cometic Head Gaskets

Colin, to be safe, do like I said and fit them to the heads with pins in the head pin holes and make sure they don't fall in the chamber, cause my gaskets did and they're larger than yours.

Re: Cometic Head Gaskets

Ahhhh....I see what you guys saying....I was totally missing the point. I'll be sure to check it out, I might end up with the 4.1s anyway....

so you're saying fit them to the bottom of the heads and measure how close the gasket comes to the chamber, right?
My heads are stock castings, I hope I don't have to send my cometics back...heck, they might mot even take them back...

oh well, if I have to buy a second set, it was simply an expensive lesson to learn

I bet you'll be OK with stock heads, but best to check anyway - only takes a couple minutes.

Yeah, I better check for sure. They are stock castings, but that about where the "stock" description of them ends...

Better safe than sorry, thanks for calling this to my attention guys

From the pic, those chamber walls don't look to be relieved at all, so the smaller gasket will most likely work just fine, but like said above, its better to check now and save the headache.

Here's where I had issues - however I have AFR heads, not stock LT1

Re: Cometic Head Gaskets

Guess I'll find out soon enough

I think the chamber walls are more relieved than the pics would lead you to believe when you look at them in person. They heads were ported by a friend of mine at this place: www.cylinderheadspecialties.com they have 2.00/1.57 valves and ended up flowing 271.6cfm intake/ 191.2cfm exhaust @ .600, so they have had quite a bit of work done. I pretty happy with those #s considering that they are the thinner 561 castings.

I'll post up pics when the gaskets arrive and get you guys opinions once again. Thanks for all the advice
