No. The ratio distances are different.

Yes. Pick up the book "How to Hotrod Small Block Chevys" by HP Books. Available anywhere speed parts are sold.

With the selection of high ratio rocker arms available specifically for the SBC today, however, I would think twice about doing this.

Smokey Yunick back in the day used stock stamped steel Big Block 1.7:1 rockers on some small blocks, he needed to modify them to work but he liked the results. I think he did it in NASCAR when you were only allowed to use stock parts.

Yep, ol Smoke did it.
Kinda looked funny too with all the little bumps in the valvecovers he made for the rocker clearance. Only the cheapest of the cheap would buy a set of BBC 1.7:1s and do this nowadays.... you might earn a nickname like "squeeky".
Crower and Comp both make stud-mount rockers in that ratio and Crane makes an adjustable which I'm not the biggest fan of but what the hey... some love em.

BB rockers are 1.7 ratio. This mod was done long ago.... before 1.7 rockers were commonly available for a small block. There is little need to go through the work to fit stock BB rockers now. This is definitely a lot of work to save a few $$.

Well, I allready have a set i bought off ebay that were said to be 1.7s for a sbc, but in fact turned out to be for a bbc, i checked them out on a set of heads i have laying sround to see if they would pose any clearance issues but the seem like they will work out with minimal modification(i hope) and yes i think it would be worth the work to spend 180 on set instead of 399 like the crane adjustables. and most 1.7s for sbc's are 300 and up that i have priced so far. so im going to give it a shot and see what happens......
