Post billet cams and the oil pump drive gear compatible?

im in the process of converting to a soild roller cam set up. i want to run a billet cam becuase of the high spring pressures i will be running. i know that gtp and others use them all the time, so my question is, does everybody convert the oil pump drive gear to a brass one? my good freind, an "old school" racer says this is a must with billet cams and a distributer, but we only use it as a oil pump drive in the lt1. so does this make a difference? thanks much for any help, jay
