I need a set of 1 7/8 headers that will clear the a/c box. Hedman has a set, but will not clear the a/c box. If you have a set on your car, where did they come from and can I get a set?

Might want to contact Dynatech about their 1-7/8" set. They should be able to tell you if they'll clear.

My route was "custom" but I do see more and more good header builders putting stuff together for 4th gens..... too bad all of it is for the LS crowd.

Good luck.

FWIW, I have a friend who has had the last few headers in his projects custom made.

It's much more expensive, in the $600 - $1,500 range, depending on complexity and coatings, but the fit is amazing, since it's a one off custom piece.

IF you are planning to make these pretty much the last set of headers you will buy for this car, then it may be worth it to spend the extra money and get a custom set made, complete with coating inside and out.

You can always get a kit from this place and build your own. Any large tube header will be expensive.

I Mailed Dynatech, no headers for a 93-97 listed on the site. I will investigate custom avenues, damn those prices hurt.

Thumbs up

I found em here, http://www.lgmotorsports.com/OCLT1_Fbody_Exhaust.htm

But they are "off road use only" so you probably shouldn't use them.

Good luck.

If you look closely the header in the pic has symmetrical ex ports aka LS1.....wonder why no one makes big headers for these cars, seems like the market would support it. There are alot of big HP LT1 4th gens out there that have the need for this type of header.

David,

Scroll down to part #114-831351

It's listed as "1-7/8 full length headers" for "1993-1997 F-body"
$479.00

Thanks man, I mailed Dynatech, that header is not listed on their site. I will call LG Motorsports and see.

just so you know..........those dynatechs are a slip on collector and very prone to leaks............the only people who didnt have leaking probs had theirs welded up.

also worth noting, most big hp lt1 4th gens tend to lose the ac box. you might be able to get a custom set made, but even my hooker 1-3/4" were less then 1/8" away from the heater box.

I have the Hedman's on my motor. Pulling the heaterbox is something I decided to do....due to the nature of what the car is, but you can run them with the heaterbox if you notch a little part of it out. The other thing you need to do with the hedman's is to modify the #1 primary for clearing the steering nuckle (only required for power steering setups).

Its not that much work in all honesty.

I called Dynatech, they no longer make that header, Jason...Do you have to pull the a/c box off to modify it? DO you just cut a recess for the header to lay in? Have you ever done it or seen it done? how much room is there between the box and the evaporator? Anyone know or done this?

David,

Call us and ask for Chuck. There may be some larger headers from Kooks that we sell. We are doing some crazy LTx engines and we can get big headers.

David, yeah you can just notch out the corner of the bow real easily. The actual heat exchanger is deeper in the box and will not get in the way. However, if you are retaining AC you will need to seal up the box good (either way).
