540 inch rat for a....

truck?

I have a 1978 C-10 with an inline 250. I know it sounds like I'm from the kuntry with this post....Anyway, I kinda wanted to restore the truck and either turbo the 6 or put a BB in it. A friend told me it'd take at least a 540 inch rat to run 10s and that I was starting off on the wrong foot. But, it's something to tinker with so I'm up for suggestions....

Another friend has built several 4/6s with turbos and has ran some SERIOUS times. He had a S10? with a turbo 4 that ran ~6.0 in the 1/8. So, I was thinking about a 292 with custom ignition(maybe a coil pack), custom intake, big turbo/intercooler, bla bla bla. Am I totally wasting my time? I have the resource to make the truck fast either way if I go BB or Turbo 6. Input please!

By the way, I still plan to build a stroked mouse for a 1st gen Camaro, but I thought this truck would be cool with a narrowed 9 inch, 10 point cage, fiberglass front end, 540 inch or turbo 6, a couple of race seats and a 10 second time slip.

First thing to ask yourself would be are you building this for the strip only? Or would you want it streetable as well?

im a HUGE fan of turbo's. But in this case I think I am leaning toward the 540.

But even better is a 540 with a 91mm (or bigger) on it.

If you want to go 6 in a row, why not start with the Vortec 4200, which in Chevy race trim and at 5.0 L pumps out 600 hp @ 7500 and 450 lb-ft of torque. It showed up at Pikes Peak and Baja in 2000 about the time the production engine was released. Not cheap to duplicate, but kool.

Sure, BBC would be easier, but everybody has a 600+ BBC in their 78 C-10. Another belly button truck.

As Jeff said it's partly money.

I still like the odd cool factor. Different engines, something like a Northstar would be pretty bad ***, you'll need a blower or turbo on one of those to get 600hp, but it would be really cool.

I haven't set a budget...but after spending all that cash I'd still have a truck...I think I'm going to direct my attention to building a 1st gen Z and let the truck sit there and rust like it's been doing for quite some time now... I may spend the time/money on it later, but like I said...I'd still have a truck after it's all said and done...
