Question 4L60E to M6......Wiring problem please help

Well, the swap is halfway done but I swapped the wiring harness and now the motor won't crank. It tried but there is no spank. There's a ornage female connection by the pcu. The female end=

A-Orange
B-Pink*
C-Brown
D-/
E-Brown*
F-/
G-Grey
H-/

Then into the male end, the other side of the male end has 2 wires.
E-Brown
B-Pink into a 7 1/2 amp fuse in the fuse panel next to the steering wheel.

Now, I finally traced where the pink wire goes. It's connected to a fuse but where does the brown wire go?

The brown wire, I traced it up to the harness to the firewall, somewhere under the dash im guessing. This is where it's *coming* from. Maybe something to do with the anti theft?

I've seen this kind of problem before. The manual has a switch in the clutch to keep the car from starting unless the clutch is pushed in. Just thought i would cover the basics.

Yea well, what if it's not even hooked up? Then that could'nt be it.

I don't understand why people don't just use the stock A4 harness. I had zero problems with it. Anyway, you may want to IM a member called "lillbush5555", he ran into problems like this.

I agree 1 Billion % Alex. I followed your write-up on the swap and had no problems. Cranked right up the first time. Heck, I still haven't hard wired it up. I simply plugged a jumper wire into the a4 connector so it thinks its in neutral all the time.. Yeah, I know it can start in gear, but only I drive the car, so its not too bad.

ahhhhhhhh GREAT!!!!!!!!!!! Well, I'll look for that guy and get his E-mail. Im going to kill the guy who told me to use the manual harness. This [edit] sucks. Althouh the auto harness is still intact but I would have to swap them again which is more work and im very lazy and ready to finish the swap.

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

1 dam* wire! grrrrrrrrr

Let me see if I understand you. You have the M6 harness swapped in, but do you have the A4 ecu still? Regardless, the clutch safety switch by default is open, which means no start. You need to find the 2 wires that it would be and put them together. Then the car will start. The wires on the a4 harness are the ones that went to the shifter mechanism. I will look at the colors tonight. I left my helms manual at a friends. HTH

Wait, again I might not be understanding you all the way. You have a m6 ecu and m6 harness right? Ok, you have everything installed and ready to crank right? You did NOT wire up the clutch safety switch right? It won't start right? Ok, um, if that is the case, then that is the problem. The car thinks you don't have the clutch pushed in. Why don't you think that would be a problem? You MUST either have the clutch switch wired up, OR have the clutch switch jumpered. It is basically an ignition interruptor. So if it is as I described, then that is the problem.

seems pretty evident that the clutch safety switch(or lack thereof) is to blame....

i just used my a4 wiring harness...was pretty simple

Do me a favor. Go take your A4 shifter and put it in park and plug it back in. I almost guarantee your car will start right up. don't say no until you try it.

I noticed from your original post that you swapped the harness. Are you referring to the engine harness? If so, simply swap back to the a4 harness and plug in the gear selector. That should solve it. I know for a fact that the pink wire is the ignition wire and when I grounded it out on the headers, the car wouldn't start. It just turned over. Check your fuses, as it could be blown. Its a 10 amp in the fuse/relay box under the hood. Good luck.
