383 build up, cam lobe clearance question>>

Begging a parts build up for a 383 with 5.7 rods and GM 847 cam. My machinist warned me of the posibility of the rods not clearing this size cam? I originally wanted to resize and reuse my stock
lt1 rods, and clearancing the block as needed. Has anyone here run into this? He sugjest I run scat I beams with 7/16 cap screws. These can be clearanced without loosing clamping force from the rod bolts.
This is a street motor. Any sugjestions or experiances apreciated.
Thanks in advance.

I have not used capscrew style rods. I have built numerous 383s. Before you shell out megabucks on far-out rods you should know that I have made stock 5.7" rods clear every cam I have run against. Grinding of the rod bolt head and the rod bolt shoulder is almost always REQUIRED even with a very mild cam. If you're ready to grind away at the block then you're ready to grind away on the rod, too. It usually doesn't take much, either. Obviously, you want to do any bottom end balancing AFTER you do all this grinding, not before. If you're worried about losing clamping force you should know that I haven't blown one up yet.

If you just can't get your skin to stop crawling even thinking about this then consider just getting your chosen cam custom ground on a smaller base circle.

I bought my kit from strokermotor.com I used scat "Pro-mod style 6" I-beam rods. He said they were good to 650 hp. and When it was built they didn't have to grind anywhere on the rods. And I was using the hotcam, now I have the cc306 No prob yet. You may want to check out strokermotor.com talk to ****, They really know thier stuff I would reccomend them to anyone
