That's a good question. I know that it's recommended to hone
the rods and caps if you change the studs...I have never heard
of this for the main caps?

I would imagine it would follow the same rule as the rods?

I changed my main bolts for studs because of a windage tray
and I was not informed of this.

When I rebuilt my motor, I had asked if my mains should
be align honed when I had my cylinders honed. The tech
suggested it only be done if the main caps were mixed.

That doesn't answer "BowTie's " question, but maybe
someone could verify what the machinist told me as well?

Well you can get away with either rod bolts or main bolts being changed and not hone wither one.

You can go to a ARP main stud and not line hone the block if it is good to start with. I would go with the windage tray versions and run a windage tray too. I do this for the studs strength and the ease of mounting a diamond screen windage tray to the engine.

Question

so i can get away with not having to align hone the mains if i decide to replace my stock main cap bolts with ARP studs?

and if i do i want to get a milodon diamond windage tray will that tray work if i get ARP main studs for windage trays?

P.S. it is a brand new 350 block from the general(GMPP)

1st question. Yes

2nd Question. Yes just buy a ARP stud kit for a 2-bolt block with windage tray bolts.

You should be o.k. with that block, esp since it's new.
