3.5 Inch Stroke?

I am planning an LT1 motor buildup hear in the near future and I am wanting to build a blower motor. I would idealy like to build a 396 but with the cost of the blower on top of the motor work, it would be way out of my budget. I am planning on a 355 buildup with a good forged crank, rods and pistons and am wanting to top it off with ported AFR 210cc heads. I want to make sure that the motor can take a lot of boost because I only want to do this once. When researching for the inverted dome pistons, I noticed that there were a lot of pistons made for the 3.5 inch stroke instead of the stock 3.48 inch. What are the advantages/disadvantages of the 3.5 inch stroke in my buildup compared to the 3.48? Will the 3.50 inch increase the cubic inch from the 355 with the 3.48 and the .30 overbore? Also, what would be a good rod length to use if I were to go the 3.5 inch route. Thanks

Some manufacturers just list em that way "3.48/3.5". They carry the same part number though. Easy enough to offset grind a crank .010-.020 but it's no big thing unless you're building some class motor. You're talking 2ci (3.5 stroke) vs a 355.

I'd just use a 5.7 or 5.85" rod. Keep in mind the 5.85's are a bit more $.

I don't think you can get a 1 pc seal 3.50 stroke crank. Anyhow, if your going forged why not get a bigger stroke, say a 3.75 for basically the same money. Building a 355ci or a 383ci with forged internals will cost you the same.

Other than the 2 cubic inches, an advantage of 3.50 stroke is that it gets you closer to "zero deck height" without having to shave as much off the block.

BTW, I'm selling a 1053 steel GM one-piece rear seal crank ground to 3.50" stroke. Make offer if interested.

I had a T-trim Vortec and AFR 210's on a 355.

Engineer Mike,
I have been looking at the Eagle rotating assemblies. They have complete asemblies down to the rods, crank, pistons, rings and bearings. They have a good 355 blower package with the exact setup that I was wanting to use. I would jump on the chance to get the crank that you have but I have my first child due any day now and I am just saving the money now and not purchasing any of the components until I know everything is going to go smooth. Mommy is going to stay home now so it is going to be only one income, which will take a lot of getting use to. Thanks for the offer though. Also, I am interested in how much power you made with your 355 combo? That is pretty much the exact setup that I am wanting to do including the 210's, except I will probably go with the ATI D1. Thanks, any input will help!

Congratulations on the baby!

With: 355, 9/1, AFR210 RR's, 210/224 cam, AS&M shorties, T-trim at 14 psi, NO intercooler/aftercooler, and street radials.

I ran: 11.60 at 126 mph and made 460 rwhp.

My car has always dyno'd low, but ran well as compared to others. Never could quite explain it. I now run 10.40's at 133 with a 383, intercooler, and ET Streets with "only" 550 rwhp.
