2-piece crank/flywheel question

Tried to do a search, but didn't find anything useful...
Is there anyone using a 2-piece crank/flywheel with a LT1 block/ T-56? Is there a flywheel that will work?

Thanks

Re: 2-piece crank/flywheel question

It's not the flywheel thats the big issue its converting the block to a 2 piece rear main seal.

I thought there were adapters made to convert to a one-piece? Is there a problem using them? I've also been told a different starter is needed?

Re: 2-piece crank/flywheel question

One of the b-body guys did this and says to all others he recommends just buying the one piece crank. Just a hassle and it leaks other than that the car has gone 10s so it hasn't failed him he just wouldn't do it that way again with the reasonable price on the one piece cranks.

They don't leak if you install and center the adapter correctly...

So is a different starter necessary? Any specifics on what flywheel can be used? And will a LT1 T-56 clutch work?

What is the ring gear on a lt1? 156 or 164?

I will look in the catalogs tomorrow. I believe Weber makes a performance clutch kit that gets rid of the stock pull style, that would allow you to use standard sbc flywheels.

Re: 2-piece crank/flywheel question

Thanks. The clutch would need to be able to handle ~500lbs of flywheel torque.

M1,
It is 154 or 156 on the starter ring gear. Get a McCloud street twin or a hyd set up from them.

What are you looking to do? If you have a 1-piece RMS block with a 2-piece crank you can get an adapter for the crank to fit the block. You then need to get a flywheel from McLeod, Findanza, Centerforce, etc. that will have a 2-piece bolt pattern so it will bolt up to the crank, but still allow you to run a T56. I'm running a Twin Disk from McLeod. Search the general tech section for BBC/T56 and my thread should come up and you can see a picture of it with the part number.

Talking 2-piece crank/flywheel for T-56

First, off, the correct tooth count is 153, which is a 12-3/4" diameter, and the other version is a 168 tooth, which is a 14" diameter. Centerforce makes a great direct bolt in 153 tooth 2-piece RMS T-56 flywheel for OEM LT-1/T-56 trannies. Also remember that the new DART SHP LT-1 blocks are 2-piece RMS only as well, so those that might go this route later, will have to deal with that as well. DART claims the reason for this 2-piece RMS choice is for the lesser expensive builds

Out of curiosity, was any of this available over 3 years ago when the post was made? I was weighing the option going w/ a two-piece because Eagle had lost my order and it made a 3-month tour of the US before ending up on my door step. Allegedly at that time the Eagle cranks were on national back-order.
