1st gen sbc heads on a lt1
1st gen sbc heads on a lt1
Ok I have a set of track1 heads fresh ready to bolt on there also ported.I was wondering if I had these heads changed to work on a lt1 could I still use a lt1 intake?I might wanna try this out if I dont have 2 cut up the cowl.
Re: 1st gen sbc heads on a lt1
If I remember correctly you have to have them machined over for an LT1 and intake like ARP heads or Trickflow's, I could be wrong though. You have to make them ready for reverse cooling.

Look at my earlier post for some of what needs to be done. However it doesn't say how to do it and them that have done it ain't putting out no info.
Don't much blame them.
Take them to someone who has done a set.

If your head ported is curious what needs to be changed...I would be concerned that he will have trouble with the conversion.
Knowing what to do is the easy part....Doing it is the hard part! I can tell you from experience also...if you really frag up the oil return sleeves...you will be in trouble! I have fixed a number of these that have been screwed up...and am to the point, I don't think I will be fixing anymore! If you are setup to do the conversion, it actually is pretty easy...the first couple are rough...but becomes not so bad.
It also has everything to do with what type of head you are converting.
good luck

How much Dennis to the conversion on a set of track1's?There ported so the the stock intake ports are going to be a lil close. This guys name is Rich Maitre and he is one hell of a head porter and very close 2 u Dennis.Pm me some info where I can get a hold of u and pricing and stuff like that.Thank you.

I agree with Dennis........ The modifications necessary aren't monumental, but do require better than average welding and machining skills, and good equipment. The first set I did was fairly time consuming, due to having to figure out where everything had to be positioned. It's also much easier working with semi-finished castings vs an out of the box head.

Tell Rich to give me a call..he should have my #. I will talk him through it.
bret, You are correct...I have done about 10 sets of brodies...never again! Porosity heaven...
