man am i ever frustrated all the ****'s couldn't express the frustration at this moment! ok here is the scoop.
i installed DFI with the Fasttrack performance jumper harness for my gen 6 dfi. correct me if i am wrong but that doesn't control the starter system in the car whatsoever. i have a bump start installed and when i hit it to bump the motor it does turn over. ok no problem there as far as voltage is concerned. i push the clutch switch in and depress and ......nothing! i even unplugged and made a short jumper to ensure i was getting contact, just in case my switch is fubar'ed.
i checked the haynes manual it shows the only other device that has to be plugged in, for the starter to crank is the theft deterrent module, it has a yellow/ black wire going to it.
quick fyi, i removed all the crap under the dash this winter....blower motor, heater core, ducting, etc...anything i didn't need for summer driving(ie. weight savings). what i found is a black box shaped like a pack of cigarrettes but smaller, it has a yellow/black wire at the connector coming out of it, like the haynes manual shows. the connector runs out of the end of it, say the bottom of a pack of smokes. ok, in the haynes manual it also says that a purple wire comes oout of steering column and plugs runs over to the relay for the theft det. module and then a yellow/black wire runs to the module. i found the purple wire from the steering column.....
does anyone know what this *** module looks like?
does anyone know where this module mounts?
can i bypass the theft module? (ie. use a jumper?) to see if the car willl start?
does anyone have a GM electrical manual for this vehicle??? 93-97 should be pretty good.
has anyone ever encountered this with major modifications ie, dfi, gutting car to nothing and putting it back together, oh brother what did i get myself into
wtf do i have to do now! yeah yeah i know...stop whining!
thanks in adavance for any suggestions! also another key fyi.... i turn the koy to on/run position....dash lights come on, fuel pump turns on, i will verifiy that all signals work and low/high beam, but i can't see why it is f'd.
p.s.: i hope it is ok to post this here

fwiw i read on a thread on ls1tech that someone had problems after they removed the airbag modules, they said the car wouldnt start while still running the stock pcm. i do believe it was obd2.
maybe Injuneer or Shoebox xan shed more light?
sorry i cant help more.

I also remember reading about someone having problems when the removed the airbag modules but I don't think that's the problem. If I recall correctly the theft deterrent module was on the passenger side, underneath the dash. It was on the right side (about where your knee would be). I can't remember if I went under the dash or through the glovebox. sorry I couldn't be of more help.
here's a schematic off of shoebox's website

Tanner its not the airbag moudule causing the problem, I'm running around with all that removed. Theft deture {sp?} runs thru the shifter interlock safety I do belive. Did you do any work in the Shifter interlock safety area?

thanks alot for the ideas, i had it narrowed down to one of 2 things.....clutch switch and the theft deterrent....Roman came over, great to have an extra hand to test a few things, wiring, relays, etc. well sure enough it was the theft deterrent module
whatever...... car fired up.
well i just let it idle for a minute so i could check header temps to make sure each one was firing, and then i shut it down, i have to verify #7 and#8 plugs, i don't think they were firing. so i am not out of the woods yet! but at least i got that nailed down.
thanks to Roman for keeping me calm! lmao!!!! he knows i can get bent at times. i am wondering if because the trans isn't on the car yet that maybe it didn't fire up????
also my mechanical oil pressure gauge didn't work
i am running both the stocker and mechanical gauge, needless to say i was a bit surprised, oh well time to check it out, actually good, as i can get to it with the bellhousing out of the way. the stocker showed excellent pressure even at idle.
HRH,
do you mean the reverse lockout? on the t56? if so then i will reconnect the wire i grounded out once the trans is in, it will be another means of troubleshooting. i don't see how i would've mucked something else in the wiring harness up.
bigworm,
thanks for the link!!!! now how can i print the whole page
it is too hard to read
thanks
