Looks like the 4.3L and 4.8L trucks will still get the 4 speed. 5.3L and up get 6 speeds

...and GM dropped the 5.3L from the regular cab trucks a few years ago, so it makes sense no 6.2L for reg. cabs.

2008 Reg cabs still have the 5.3L, but no 6.0L http://www.edmunds.com/chevrolet/sil...008/index.html

My bad, I "sit" corrected. I could have sworn GM took the 5.3L away from reg. cab trucks.

Why is GM so scared of a 6.2L/A6 or M6 reg cab 1500?

What I was saying (even though I was incorrect) is that if GM *doesn't* (which they do) have a 5.3L in the reg cab trucks, it makes no sense that they would drop the 6.2L in it.

A 6.2L would be a sweet truck in a RCSB, but I doubt many people would want to pay for a 13/18 mpg truck that will probably cost 25-30K. It would be a very small market. The Tundra has been out for a year and I honestly think I've only seen 3 reg cab trucks. I hardly ever see any NBS RCSB silverados either.

Likely they aren't scared but don't want to have to pay to do the emissions/crash testing to sell 10k trucks. The investment just isn't worth the payout. Sounds like a smart business plan to me. But hey what do I know I am just using logic.

Pretty confusing. It looks like to me that you can get the 6-speed with 6.0 (L76) in extended cab or crew cab. Only thing you can get the 6.2 and 6-speed in is the crew cab. Reg cab gets neither of these. I don't see any way listed to get the 6-speed with 5.3.

Forget that... I don't want to have to buy a 35k dollar truck to get that motor... if I did I would have just bought the Sierra Denali a year or more back and gotten the same setup for ~10% more.

Though it does also look like the 6-speed it standard with the 5.3L V8 on the Silverado 1500s..

I might just be reading it all wrong, though.
LTZ=$40K

Okay GM, while you are making improvments how about ditching the old iron block 5.3L infavor of the no additional cost 80lb lighter aluminum flex fuel motor across the line.

The 4.5L Duramax is a more important engine for the Silverado than the 6.2L V8. How many 6.2L 1500's will GM sell when gas finally catches up to the price of Diesel at $4.50 a gallon.

I'd like to see the 2.9L V6 Diesel start going into Silverados paired with a 6 speed auto.

Who said Diesel prices will not continue to be more than gas prices?

Reading farther down, it looks like the Suburban and Avalanche are 6 speed auto across thte board, but for some reason it does not list this change (deletion of 4 speed and addition of 6 speed) for the Tahoe.

BUT, it does list the 6.2L as an addition for the Tahoe, and I highly doubt they are putting that in front of the old 4 speed...

Maybe just an oversight on the list.

Because it's the old "I want the most expensive powertrain for the cheapest price" syndrome that most manufacturers want to avoid. It's the same reason they don't sell complete stripper cars anymore.

There's a cost of entry for horsepower and transmission, you can't expect them to give you this powertrain for the actual cost of the option and nothing more. I don't blame GM. I'd expect that any regular cab 6.2/6 speed would be branded and sold as an 'SS'....with the appropriate markup.
