Z28 Vs RS

I thought that the RS was the V6 and the Z28 was the V8. However, I'm searching through autotrader and alot of the Camaros say "RS" but are V8's. So what IS the difference between the RS and the Z28?

Where there some V8 RS's?

Thanks!

Yes you could buy an RS with either the 5.0L TBI V8 engine or the 2.8/3.1L V6,but the better performing 5.0L TPI and 5.7L TPI engines were only available in the Z28/Iroc cars..

Right. 170hp and 255tq. I'm not sure if the transmissions are the same or even the rear end gears, but I think everything else is pretty much the same.

Both used the same transmissions auto/manual and the same 10-bolt rear with options for the limited slip and gears in 1991.
Z-28 auto 2:73 & 3:23 305/350 TPI and manual 3:42 305TPI only.
RS auto 2:73/manual 3:08 305 TBI.

Ouch.. the powers really not too good.. Are those the models that had those 85 mph speedos?

What would be the stock 1/4 mile time with an auto?

Are the 305 TBI's highly moddable? Like with headers and 2.25" Dual exhaust with flowmasters, would I pick up much power? What are some other popular mods to get it into the 14s?

Dual exhaust is a waste of time and money, a stock TBI car will run high 15's to low 16's depending on the transmission.

All 1990 + cars had the 110 speedo (camaro) or the 120 speedo (firebird).

The 170 hp isnt really anything to get excited about, but it has enough torque to make fun to drive. I will wonder about some of GM's choices forever, and the L03 TBI 5.0 is one of them. Oh well, i almost bought one a little while back, then i found a 4th gen 6 cyl.

Last fall my L03 with headers and a new exhaust, new air cleaner and initial timing at 8 degrees, recored 181 RWHP and 269 RWTQ (about 208 hp & 300 tq at the crank) on a chassis dyno and ran 15.006 @ 92 mph at the strip with 3.42 gears.
