wiring a carburated LT1 in a 1983 camaro

i might be getting a LT1 motor but i dont know what year it is yet. i was wonder what i needed to do to wire it into my 1983 camaro z28. It's going to be carburated but i have no idea what i need to wire it up for my car. Also will a 700R4 work well with the LT1 motor.

if it is carburated and using the GMMP intake to use an old school distributor, it will wire the same as a regular small block, and yes, the 700R4 will hook up the same as on any carbed engine

I could be wrong, but i dont think a 305 wiring harness will work for an lt1. Though, I am not very familiar with lt1 carb conversions, so I could be wrong.

it will work fine, the carb conversions use all old schools stuff, so, no issues

are you using an aftermarket carb? if yes, use an HEI dist, and then you just need to change the end on i wire, and it will run great

Why would you buy a late-model fuel injected engine just to throw an old-school carb on it? SBC's are a dime a dozen practically, why not use one of those? Keep the LT1 fuel injected. Not to mention the LT1 doesnt use a standard distributor so you'll need some kind of distributorless ignition, I think MSD makes them.

if you go carbed, then you will be running a carb and a old style distributor, so why would anything different be needed?

if he was going fuel injected, it would be a different story

Eh it's just weird that a completely different generation motor can be controlled by a factory 305 gen-1 ecu

sorry about the delay Dave, it's been tough getting to a computer to get on here. But I suppose that makes since, I thought there were more differences. Would a carb-converted ls1 be able to be controlled by a 305 ecm?
