Will 4th gen carrier work in a 3rd gen car?

My bother has a 86 Camaro with oper rear. Will a 96 posi unit work in it? Are they the same spline?

Nope, won't work if his rear is stock.
96 has 28 splines and the 86 has 26.
Just find a rear from a 89+ 10bolt 3rd gen and grab the axles.
