what's this worth? (92 heritage z28)

I know where a 92 5.7L Z28 with the Heritage stripes is, but it's in bad condition and kinda weird. It needs alot of work, body, paint, interior, etc.. The wierd part is that it has T-Tops (aftermarket?), and RS rear hatch and spoiler (no Z wing), and it has the 110 mph speedo. They're asking $2650 for it, but I bet I could get it for about $2000. Anyway, here's some pictures of it, they were taken about a year ago, but it's still for sale (I saw it today). http://community.webshots.com/album/39313126wYYTNj

Im not sure of the worth, and how much it has deterirerated since the pics were taken. But IMO it doesnt look that bad at all, nothing some paint and maybe a slight amount of bondo wouldnt fix. Plus 350 TPIs are getting harder to find. I would say if you could get it for $2000 that wouldnt be that bad.

Anyone read the VIN? It was a V6, All Z28's had high rise spoiler and could have 110 speedo but all 5.7 cars had the 140 speedo.

Since it's a 350 transplant car it has no real book value.

Ok so the cars not original. It depends on what you want. Something thats supposedly special or rare from the factory, or something thats yours to do what you want to make it special. I always looked at rare cars as a hinderance because I cant keep my fingers away from the engine, and with a rare car you should keep it factory. With a car like that with the 350 transplant and all your not limited that way. I say use the fact aths its not original to leverage the guy into selling it cheaper, take the car home and do what you want with it to make it unique in its own right.

You read the VIN on the RPO sheet, not he VIN on the plate under the winshield. The one on the sheet is for a 92 V6 RS, the one under windshield IS for a 92 5.7 Z28. As you have noted, the spoiler is from an RS. If you look closer, you will notice that the side peices that mount to the body are missing and there are no signs of them ever being there, so it must have had a Z28 spoiler at one time. Also, you can't see in the pictures, but the paint on the hatch and on the spoiler is a slightly darker shade of red. I wouldn't be suprized if the hatch and peice of plastic that the RPO sheet is on, are both from the same car. I think I also read somewhere that the 91-92 5.7 Z28s did not require the 140 speedo like the 5.7 IROCs did.

All origional Heritage cars are of particular intrest to collectors. Why? I have no idea why these are sought after. Sort of like the 82' pace car. No real power in the 82' but people ask a lot for a one in good shape and get it. A car with the parts you mentioned in the condition it is in has no collectable value. Most 3rd gens dont unfortunatly. Its sad because there were many cars that were rare from 82-92 but their worth is relitive because most people would pass on a car that is somewhat rare for a cheaper common car. All the 5.7 Z-28s in 91-92 got the 140 mph speedometer.

I passed on a car that had some inconsistancies about 2 years a ago it was a 92' RS and had black headlamp pockets and the dealer swore it was origional, so i walked away. One of my buddies bought it and there was definatly something up with it.

Anyway, it wouldnt be a bad car for 2000.

Worth is a relitive term, It depends on if there is someone willing to pay what your asking. I recently saw a 92" Z28 Convertible with 22,900 miles on it sell for 18,000. This is one of only 1254 verts made this year. (Not a heritage car) This is not bad considering it sold for close to 24,000 new.

Another buddy of mine rebuilt the front of a totaled 87' IROC put on a flowmaster and got it painted. He took his time on it and the car and the work cost him 2,000 dollars. He never thought he would sell a car with a salvage title and over 100,000 miles on it. Some guy walked up to him in a parking lot and said I'll give you 6,000 for it (knowing the cars title was a salvage) Needless to say my freind said its yours. So you never know.

This site would be a good way to figure out approximatly what your car should go for www.cars-on-line.com
I couldnt get the link to take you to the exact page, so you have to go to the home page and then to the camaro section on the right.
Take notice of the cars that are priced too high and the cars that sell quickly.

ive seen people sell cars similar to yours with low milealge and in mint condition anywhere from $8,000 all the way up to $18,000. i would go to autotrader.com and do a search around the entire conuntry and see what people are asking. sounds like a sweet ride though!
