whats the width on a 3rd gen rear?

Does anybody know what teh width on a stock 3rd gen rear end is. I wanna put a 8.5" 10bolt out of a snd gen in my 92 and i have a set of zr1 wheels i wanna run. So if its wider i might beable to get away with not running wheel spacer. I measured the 8.5 10bolt out of our 70 SS/RS and it came out to be 55" back plate to back plate.

Thanks for the help.

Not sure on the backing plate measurements but a third gen diff is about 61-62" from axle flange to axle flange (the part the drum sits against)

What are you going to do about the torque arm?

You think a bolt on clamp around the axle can handle the rotational forces of the diff? Those don't eliminate the torque arm and they don't do any more than a set of LCA relocation brackets will do.

Installation instructions.

If i welded them to the axle tubes they woudl serve the same purpose as a TQ arm. I have to do it some way. There is no good way of hook a TQ arm up to a 8.5" 10 bolt. and im not gunan spend mega bux on a 9" or a 12bolt when i can make somthing work just as good. Im not scared at all of a little fabrication.

Post pics when finished. Sounds like a 4 link in the making!

Anyone see the new Dana 60 with TQ Arm mount? Looks very sweet.

Strange engineering but there's nothing on their web site about it yet.

Apparently it's about $2300

I wouldn't mind a Dana 60 but even for my car it's overkill.
