From what I hear the Hooker comps and super comps are the best. The long tubes flow better. But Ive been reading lately that shorties and smaller primaries can actually help low end torque if your not running a really radical set-up.

it depends on what you want. shorty's will help your low end torque to an extent (depending on the radicalness of your motor). the LT's will help flow better up top.

then there's the "how much are you willing to spend part."

long tubes also require a very unique y-pipe, or in most cases, a true dual exhaust setup. Neither is easy, and unless you can squeeze a cat into each side of the dual exhaust, the dual setup won't be legal. Shorties are a bolt-in.

I just dropped a set of Heddman ceramic coated shorties in my '91 this evening. I'm expecting some pretty heavy power gains since my exhaust has been the major restriction on my powerplant for a loooong time.....I'll post up about it tomorrow after I get the rest of the exhaust put in.

Oh and I paid $200 shipped for the headers (slightly used) and the custom y-pipe and the rest of the exhaust is prolly gonna run another $250-300.

Shorties are by far the easiest to install.

Headers will give your exhaust a raspy, low pitched rumble. It is like you can now hear the exhaust gases rushing through the pipes. Unique sound

I chose the hedman long tubes. Everyone I know raves about longtubes so I decided to jump on the bandwagon.

I've got pics of them here,

I wanted longtubes but I didn't want to deal with trying to make them clear the T-56 clutch hydros so I went with shorties instead.

I picked up my car at the exhaust shop this afternoon (after driving it over this morning on open headers hehehe) and I must say the sound of her idle just makes me drool now. At low cruise speeds the exhaust is very raspy but when you punch it she just roars.....it's a wonderful sound. I'm running a set of Heddman ceramic 1 5/8" into 3" shorties, reduced to 2.5" per side (for clearance under the engine) into a 3" Y with no cat and 3" pipe all the way back to the 3" single in/single out 3-chamber Flowmaster.

I've got a set of Hedman Tork Step headers (shorty style, no emissions) that I bought a while back intending to put them on the road racing motor I'm building for my IROC. However, after test fitting them on the engine stand, they aren't going to work with the aftermarket oil pan I have so they need to go so I can get some replacements. They are brand new, I've got the box and all the info that came with them. If anyone is interested, let me know.

If emissions is not a factor i would go with the Hooker long tubes, A.K.A Hooker Super Comps. Ther 1 3/4 inch coated long tubes. They cost somewhere in the $500 range but are the best out there (IMO) and will last a LONG time. They make great power and sound REALLY good. I bought mine 2 years ago and i love em. They where easy to insall (for me). Im really satisfied with them and i turly believe they are the best headers made for these cars (none emissions legel ons)

If emissions is a factor then i would go with the SLP 1 3/4 shorties, they are emissions legel and arent that expensive compared to the hooker super comps, i think they cost close to $375.

I am very impressed with the quality and ease of installation of the TPI specialties headders, but they are 600.00 bare and 750.00 coated, but you get what you pay for.
